Tour Style . NEW ZEALAND: Our 24 seater Overland truck was purpose built for New Zealand. Seats are forward facing, the truck is heated for those winter days in the South Island (!), has sliding windows, a frideg/cooler box, writing tables, a fully stocked library, roll mats, dome tents, fully equipped kitchen and mountain bikes for free use whenever you want! Accommodation is mixed: awesome campsites, Hotels and Lodges and the occassional hostel. It is about a 50/50 mix of hard top to camping accommodation - although this does differ according to the itineray. We operate on a one crew system - except when the truck gets full and we then have two crew. We include three meals a day when camping, all accommodation while on tour and all the major highlights listed on the dossiers. We do not operate hop-on-hop-off tours; they are set dates and set departures which we feel gives more structure to those with limited time. AFRICA: The trucks are specially converted and fully equipped and can carry up to 30 people comfortably. The trucks can carry enough fuel, food and water to allow us to travel for long periods off the beaten track and away from civilisation if necessary. Overlanding has been tried and tested and it is without doubt the safest, most sociable and cost effective method of travelling around in areas where public transport, roads, personal security and finding accommodation can be difficult or even hazardous. Africa operates with one crew member as we believe this is more beneficial. It makes them more involved in the day to day running of the trip and also gives them more personal independence. People come to Africa to experience it; but may fail to do so when a tour leader is constantly organising everything for them. Our trips encourage people to be proactive, to go out into the markets to do the shopping, interact with locals or maybe organise an additional side trip. We feel that this gives a much more complete experience and will ultimately make the safari far more memorable. African tours are almost all camping. SOUTH AMERICA / MIDDLE EAST: Except in exceptional circumstances, all vehicles on South America and Middle East overland trips have two crew members - a Driver and a Tour Leader. ME and SA overland travel groups' travel in sturdy, purpose built trucks. The majority of the vehicles are Scania 93 series 4x2 trucks of between 220 and 280 horsepower. They are purpose built trucks made to deal with the terrain and climates we encounter along the way on the trips. Inward and forward facing coach seats with head rests, providing more storage space for your souvenirs and luggage as well as more leg room for our overland travel groups to stretch out on the longer journeys. It means we can't pack as many people in as with 'bus' type forward-facing layouts with narrow aisles, but the extra space is always appreciated! In South America max passengers carried is 23, in the Middle East it is 24. Camping in both areas is about 50% MOROCCO: Morocco operates on a two-crew system, lead by an experienced Tour Leader, except on some shorter trips (Morocco 8 days etc) where it may be deemed appropiate that only a Tour leader is necessary. We pride ourselves on providing a fully equipped expedition vehicle, so that
whether in the Sahara, out in the bush or in the jungle, we are totally
self-sufficient. Every group member is expected to participate in the daily chores, such as
putting up your own tent, shopping, cooking, setting up camp and general truck
duties. All tours are on an Expedition vehicle, but we have camping tours and hotel based itineraries. We aim to visit destinations and leave them as we have found them, respecting
the culture and customs of the people that live there.
